Skincare Spotlight - Medik8

Sunday, July 10, 2022

I am sure like a fair few fans, I have Caroline Hirons to thank for introducing me to Medik8. If you want to learn more on your skin and the products (read that as the ingredients and not the brands) that you should be using for your skin type, I thoroughly recommend you looking in her website and book.

I "found" Medik8 a few years back now and being an absolute brand junkie, it says something that I keep returning. If you want science backed products that work, you have to look these guys up! They actually do some fab kits to dip your toe in to too!

At 38 my skin is showing signs of ageing, it can be a sensitive soul and likes to keep me on my toes with the occasional breakout. That said overall, I can't complain and I would say I am pretty lucky.

Over the last 5 years, I have certainly gotten to know what works. So I thought I would show you a few of my faves.

First up. Sunscreen... If you are using active ingredients, retinols, retinoids etc.... WEAR SUNSCREEN! You may be trying to fight signs of ageing, but if you don't protect it, its pointless.

Advanced Day Protect

This beaut has been bought over and over again, it not only protects, but its been a fabulous day moisturiser. My skin doesn't tolerate too much, especially in the summer months.

Vitamin C - C Tetra.

Another one that I have repurchased many times. I didn't really "do" Vit C, but I have to say, my skins laps this up and I have found that using it my skin is brighter and a bit more plump like....

Crystal Retinal 10

I must stress, I have worked up to this! If you are just starting out in retinoids, please go gentle at first, you do not want your face falling off! I don't use this every night, probably every other give or take. For me I have tried lots of different brands and Medik8 seem to get these bad boys right. I also like Kate Sommeville, but my skin finds this much kinder, yet effective.

Glycolic Sleep Acid

I have used the below face wash, however I have found my skin likes cleansers that are quite moisturising as well as active. I got this one with my last Space NK buy as I thought I would see how an AHA from Medik8 would be as a cream instead. Oh my god, I love it. Easily one of my faves, its amazing when I have had some breakouts or congestion. I don't use this with other actives, it does pack a punch! Sometimes I will apply it as a spot treatment, but maybe once a week I will use all over as a "treat".

Surface Radiance Cleanse

I have used and liked this enough to have cut it open to get the dregs out, would I buy it again? Yes, I would, but I would probably reach for the Sleep Acid first. As a first cleanse this works well for me ( I double cleanse every eve, especially if I have worn make up and SPF), I would usually follow with my a cleanser leaves my skin feeling nourished -if that's even a thing, as the AHA can be drying.

Lipid Balance Cleansing Oil

This is fabulous to get grime off, I would use this when I have had lots of make up on, or as a morning cleanse. I loved massaging this in as a first cleanse in an evening to get make up off best though, you can't beat that feeling.

However, in between using active cleansers something like this is fab. I personally prefer something gel like after an oil cleanse, unless I had used the above Surface Radiance. That is then a perfect example of how my skin is particular and I would then switch it around and use the gel consistency first and the oil second!

I think that I actually had this from a Caroline Hirons kit...
